This workshop, which is based on the basic techniques of Balinese dance theatre, aims to, to open up new forms of physical expression and energy management for the stage.

Grace Lopez studied Balinese dance theater at the Indonesian Institute of Arts Denpasar, Bali und bei I Made und Nyoman Djimat (Bali). She is a dancer, Choreographer and Director of Compañía Tari Bali México, in between 2000 and 2008 she was the choreographer of Amsel/ Theater im Flug (Austria-Mexico).
Introduction to Balinese dance
This course, who teaches the basic techniques of Balinese theatre, allows the actor, learn new forms of movement, working towards a great goal: the liveliness of the body on stage.
Being practiced in bodywork: the creation of a character, physical presence, subtleties of gesture, focus of energy, Perception in space and the qualities of movement (for example: manis/sweet, kras/wild) The quality of the differentiated bodies- and muscle tension of Balinese dance theater allows the actor to finely accentuate and vary his characters in order to achieve a believable emotional expression.
The Balinese “Theater Dance”, of his arc between drama, Dancing and singing is exciting, is one of the oldest and most versatile art forms of the great Indonesian archipelago.
He excels in body control, codified gesture, -which expresses certain emotions and character traits-, and through the strongly drawn representation of the characters.
This traditional dance has survived to this day as a scenic art form.
Workshop
Theoretical-practical seminar for "beginners": It includes the basic body technique of Balinese dance: „Position of the Agem“, forms of movement, facial expression, Use of hands and feet as well as knowledge of the dancer's interpretation and portrayal of different characters.
Goals:
The participants should learn the theoretical and practical physical basis of Balinese dance.
The development of the relationship between breathing, of energy and focus. This establishes the connection between the space and the dancer.
structure of the hours
- Breathing and body energy exercises: tension, Relaxation, strain.
- physical preparation: flexibility, elasticity, power and precision.
- Balinese dance technique, basic positions: „Agem Puri“ (Mrs), „Agem Laki“ (Mann) Hatred – the androgynous and variations of different styles
- Gesture exercises: Eyes, hands, Armed, Face and its meaning and application in dance
- The importance of mask and movement:
Hard Topk – the fiery, strong mask, Dalem Mask – the nice one, differentiated movement, Shit Mask – the androgynous Masek, Old Mask – the old.
Movement elements are presented, to bring each and every one of these characters to life.
